Some companies have their sitters act as independent contractors while others treat them as employees. What is best for you will depend on your state laws and how you run your business. There is a good breakdown of the differences between the two on the IRS website here.

Precise Petcare is setup by default to treat sitters as independent contractors (with much more freedom), but there are a couple options that you can set where your sitters will be treated more like employees on the Site Options > Sitters & Journals page:

  • Set Assigned Visits to "Immediately added to Sitter's schedule" to prevent them from being able to decline visits or needing to accept them
  • Set Availability to "Sitter time off must be approved" so instead of telling you when they're available they will need to explicitly request time off and have it approved
